Esteban del Rio, Ph.D. Spring 2008 Courses: Office Hours: Tues./Thurs.: 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.; Wed.: 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. Esteban del Rio (Ph.D., University of Massachusetts Amherst) first joined the Department in 2001 as a Visiting Assistant Professor. Dr. del Rio’s teaching and research interests include: media and cultural studies; the production and consumption of culture, collective memory; political economy; and transnationalism. Current research projects include essays on the coherence of Latina/o unity and difference in popular and informational media, and on the politics of positive representation for subaltern/marginalized groups. His recent essay, “The Latina/o Problematic: Categories and Questions in Media Communication Research” appears in Communication Yearbook 30. Dr. del Rio teaches Introduction to Media Studies (130), Media & Conflict (338), Interpretive Methods (366), International Media (380), Film & Cultural Politics (432), and Acoustic Culture & Communication (494). |
