Check List



Graduation Year Checklist

  • Check your DARS for accuracy. As an undergraduate student, you must have a minimum of 124 total units to graduate, including 48 upper division units. Check that all of your grades and/or incomplete grades from previous semesters are posted accurately. Make sure that all transfer work that you’ve completed appears in DARS.
  • Check in with your advisor and confirm that your major and/or minor requirements are complete or are being completed.
  • Fill out your Graduation Petition. Take it to your department chair (Arts & Sciences) or the Director of Undergraduate Programs (Business) to be signed. Turn it in to the Registrar’s Office by November 1 for May or August graduation and May 1 for January graduation. The Registrar’s Office will review your Petition and notify you of your graduation status via a message sent to your USD e-mail account.
  • Verify your address with the Registrar’s Office for the mailing of your diploma..
  • Contact Career Services to explore career options, apply for jobs and internships, or discuss graduate programs.
  • If you plan to participate in the Commencement Ceremonies, review the Commencement Web site.
  • If you will be an August 2008 Graduate and wish to participate in Commencement Ceremonies, you must complete your summer classes at USD Summer Session.
  • Attend GradFest February 26 or 27 at the USD Bookstore to order your cap and gown ($10 fee), announcements, class ring, diploma frame, and free sitting for your cap and gown portrait.
  • Pick up cap and gown at USD Bookstore beginning Monday, May 5. Late orders may be picked up on May 12.
  • Complete the Senior Exit Survey.
  • Order your USD yearbook.
  • Pick up Commencement tickets at the Jenny Craig Pavilion Ticket Office beginning Monday, May 5. Tickets must be picked up by Friday, May 23 by 4 p.m.
  • Pay all balances on all of your accounts (including library and parking).
  • Complete your Exit Loan Counseling if you received financial aid.
  • Set a place to meet your family following your Commencement ceremony.
  • Contact California Candids for purchase of Commencement photos and Graduation Nation for purchase of Commencement video.
