2013 Focus Groups with San Diego Regional Leaders
In January 2013, Climate Education Partners conducted two independent focus groups of San Diego key influentials and community leaders. One group was identified as “seasoned” leaders and the other as “emerging” leaders. An identical discussion guide queried participants about how they obtained, used, and shared information about science in general and about climate change in particular.
2012 Public Opinion and Knowledge Survey
Climate Education Partners completed a follow-up countywide public opinion survey of more than 1,200 San Diego County residents to understand their views of climate science and the impacts of climate change.
2011 Public Opinion and Knowledge Survey
Climate Education Partners completed a countywide public opinion survey of more than 1,000 San Diego County residents to better understand their views of climate science and the impacts of climate change. The survey found that, compared to others throughout the United States, San Diegans are consistently more aware that:
- Climate change is occurring
- It poses significant threats to the region’s oceans, clean air and water supplies
- Climate threatens our quality of life, especially for future generations

2011 Regional Leader Interviews
Climate Education Partners (formerly called San Diego Regional Climate Education Partnership) met individually with a representative group of community leaders to learn about the current state of climate change knowledge in the San Diego County region. From May 2011 to July 2011, veteran interviewers sat down with 38 Key Influential (KI) leaders in the San Diego region, including elected officials, tribal leaders, academics and representatives from local businesses, nonprofits, ethnic, cultural and faith-based communities, and special interest groups. This report is an overview of what we learned from a representative sample of San Diego's Key Influentials.
Annotated Bibliography of Research on Climate Education in Non-Academic Settings
This summary of academic writings is related to environmental education and draws from the fields of education, communication and the behavioral sciences. The annotated bibliography provides a compendium of environmental education research focused specifically on adult learning in non-academic settings. Peer reviewed articles and relevant books are organized in alphabetical order according to area of research. Please note that each citation includes the author’s written abstract when available and also a brief annotation of how the citation is relevant to understanding effective climate change education and communication.
