Clicker Standardization:
CPS @ USD
"When I use clickers in my classroom,
everyone becomes interested and involved."

In the Fall '07 semester the University of San Diego standardized with the eInstruction Classroom Performance System (CPS) clicker technology and software. eInstruction is a radio frequency classroom response system designed to increase student contribution and interaction, and to encourage classroom attendance. The response system can be used to gather data from student responses, administer quizzes, and collect polling results in a real time classroom environment. This type of response system can also be used by faculty in determining students' understanding of subject matter.
A committee of 18, consisting of faculty, ITS personnel and students spent a substantial amount of time and energy researching, reviewing and evaluating a number of products in reaching a decision on a standardized product. Evaluation criteria include functionality, cost, durability, ergonomics, ease of use, software implementation for faculty, and ease of support for ITS. See 'USD's Selection Process' below for more details about how and why CPS was selected for our campus.
9 faculty members from a variety of disciplines (Physics, Math, Accounting, Chemistry, Computer Science, Marketing and Nursing) adopted the technology in Fall '07. Students were polled at the conclusion of semester and complete results of that survey are available upon request.
"More professors should use them!"
