Introduction to AlcoholEdu:
AlcoholEdu is an interactive Web-based program offered to USD students through the Center for Health and Wellness Promotion, an area of Student Wellness at the University of San Diego. AlcoholEdu is currently utilized at more than 80 public and private colleges and universities in the United States. AlcoholEdu for both college and high school is available through Outside the Classroom.
Commencing Fall semester 2005, Freshman and select student groups at USD were encouraged to participate in AlcoholEdu during the first few weeks of school as a preventative program for binge drinking. During this first year of AlcoholEdu we had more than 30% of the freshman class and 55% of all athletes participate in the program. Starting Fall semester 2006, all incoming Freshman are required to complete the program and we anticipate and 85% or higher completion rate. AlcoholEdu is just one of many supportive educational programs offered at USD.
