Scientist - Enzyme Chemist
Job Description
Develop processes for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical intermediates using enzyme-mediated reactions. Job responsibilities include: design of enzyme activity assays, high throughput screening of enzyme libraries, reaction and enzyme optimization.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
MS or Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields.
Lab experience in organic chemistry and enzymology is required. Experience with molecular biology is desired. Familiarity with automation such as robotic liquid handling is a plus. Excellent communication skills and the ability to excel in a teamwork environment are a must.

Position Title
Research Scientist / Medicinal Chemistry
Job Description
The successful applicant will plan, organize, & conduct research in drug discovery projects using modern medicinal chemistry & organic synthetic chemistry approaches. They will also initiate & direct the design, synthesis, purification, & characterization of bioactive small molecules through the use of techniques such as parallel or combinatorial synthesis, column chromato-graphy, HPLC, NMR, & MS. Select individual will interact with medicinal & computational chemists on a variety of chemistries including biochemistry & computational chemistry & will be able to integrate information from these disciplines into the design of new bioactive compounds. Individual must work very closely with the Biology Depart. & as a key member on various project teams. This position may also directly supervise incumbents within the Chemistry Depart., supervisory responsibilities include; interviewing, hiring, & training employees; planning, assigning, & directing work, appraising performance, rewarding & disciplining employees, addressing complaints & resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Ph. D. or equivalent in Chemistry or 10 + years related exp or equiv. combination of educ. & exp. in pharmaceutical drug discovery. A strong track record of accomplishment in small molecule drug discovery in biotech or large pharma is req. Exp. in discovery of small molecule enzyme inhibitors &/or receptor agonists/antagonists as well as supervisory experience is advantageous. The ideal candidate will also posses knowledge of Chem4 D, DiscoveryGate, ACD ChemDraw, Scifinder, MS Excel MS PowerPoint, MS Word & MS Outlook at an intermediate to advanced skill level.
