March 13-17: University of Diversity Week Events

The University of San Diego’s University of Diversity Week recognition is happening March 13-17 with the theme of “Seeing our Similarities, Embracing our Differences,” this year.

The week commenced with an ARTivism event March 13 on the Maher Lawn area.

Tuesday’s events are scheduled to open with a discussion called, “Indigenizing USD,” at 12:30 p.m. in Maher Hall, Room 253.

Tonight, starting with a photo gallery viewing at 6:15 p.m., the newest My Story event consists of members of the USD campus community discussing their participation in the second annual “What I Be Project.” The talk is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Hahn University Center’s Forum C. A video from last year's inaugural event is shown above.

Wednesday’s two events take place in the afternoon and evening. A First-Generation Alliance meet and greet event will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the Degheri Alumni Center’s courtyard space. Following that event is “Listen, Share, Learn: A Night of Reflection,” which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in the third floor courtyard of the Student Life Pavilion.

Thursday’s events are Torero Program Board’s Out of the Box event from 12:30-2 p.m. in the SLP’s Plaza Mayor area and then the first event for USD’s March celebration of Womxn’s Herstory Month, Mujer Mariposa: Voices of Womxn on the Periphery Workshop. This event runs from 6-8 p.m. in the UC Exhibit Hall space across from the Torero Store.

University of Diversity Week events conclude with Friday’s Nothing Bundt Feminism discussion from 12-2 p.m. in the USD Women’s Center, SLP 420, and then a great evening celebration, The Formal: Dance of the Decades, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Westin Gaslamp Hotel in downtown San Diego. Tickets for the formal are available for $5 at the UC Ticket Office.

University of Diversity Week events are co-sponsored by the Torero Program Board, the Black Student Resource Center, the USD Changemaker Hub, the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice and the United Front Multicultural Center.
