Vote for Changemaker Challenge Video Finalists

Thinking about water conservation? Judging by the Changemaker Challenge finalists' ideas, they've thought about it and they have plans to do something about it.

A sustainability mobile app that tracks water usage. Another mobile app that not only tracks water use but also rewards users by donating to an international water project. A movement to ban plastic water bottles on campus. Increasing awareness among students about meat consumption and water usage. A stationary bike that allows a person to exercise while at the same time reduces water usage to do a load of laundry. A label that designates produce grown using water-efficient methods. Educating diverse local refugee communities who have limited access to information about water conservation.

The ideas, submitted as a two-to-three-minute video, centered on having the campus community provide a water conservation idea. Winners will receive prize money from a pool of $6,000.

Being a finalist, though, isn’t enough. Now through Sunday, December 11, each finalist wants to earn the most votes for their video entry. Voters can find all seven videos on the USD Changemaker Hub Facebook Changemaker Challenge page. To vote, “like” the USD Changemaker Hub Facebook page, watch the videos and select your favorite. Voting is open to everyone.

The winners will be announced on Monday, Dec. 12 at a finalists’ reception event.

The Changemaker Challenge finalists are: Angela Marie Hessenius (USD Sustain App); Claire Flynn and Shannon Kuzmick (Track H2Go App); Shea Ricketts, Madison McGrew, Thalia Mejia and Katherina Nardo (Ban Plastic Water Bottles); Danya Moodabagil, Riley Worthington, Lara Yovanovich and Isabella Avila (What Goes into Your Meat); Denae DeForest, Cecilia Pho and Camille Contreras (Laundry Cycler); Sarah McWilliams, Katie Panagopoulos and James Pala (Water Efficient Label); James Barrett, Austin Galy, Ysera Liu and Katherine Kovach-Galton (Ethno-Educational Model: Strong and Culturally Diverse Education Built Through Community).
