How do you define “Changemaker?”
Recently, USD was selected as a “Changemaker” university, one of only 19 in the world so designated by Ashoka U. Here at USD, we’re all changemakers. What that means is different for each one of us. We want to know what being a changemaker means to you.

A changemaker is someone who is involved and interested in the world. They see problems and execute solutions. They don’t just talk about what is wrong in the world, they change it. They get others excited about the issue to further the cause and they change it for the longterm.

Someone who either sees a problem, or sees a way to improve someone’s life, and does everything he/she can to make a difference. A changemaker can be someone who starts a huge volunteering organization, or someone who simply says nice words to another who is having a rough day. Either way, a changemaker aims to benefit others.

A changemaker isn’t someone who simply wishes for change; they make change happen. They control their destiny through responsibility, integrity and determination. A changemaker doesn’t necessarily have to be a leader, rather someone who is a team player that adheres to their beliefs but approaches every situation with an open mind resulting in the best solution possible. A changemaker not only reaches out to others, but also inspires them to create change in their lives.

I definitely believe that being a Changemaker is someone who improves upon this world. There is a broad spectrum of people on this planet, and the students at USD are ones that want to leave their names behind, and leave a legacy. Changemakers at USD are young adults who have passion and determination for a certain cause. They reach out to others with a helping hand and spread the word of tolerance and equality.

A changemaker is a person who is inspiring, enthusiastic, and an authentic leader by acting in line with the change he/she would like to see in the world. He/she leads by example and is congruent in values and acts with dignity in order to have an effective, positive, and lasting change on the world, whether at the local, national, international, or global level(s).

A Changemaker is someone who has a vision and implements a goal to pursue a better world. They are able to identify a problem and work with the root cause instead of the surface level causes of the problem. They think of creative solutions to old and overlooked problems and always have an eye for improvement. Encouraging and inspiring others is what changemakers do.

A Changemaker is someone who sees a problem in the world, no matter how big or small, and works hard to change it, whether it is by educating people about this issue or taking hands on action to achieve this change. That person puts 100% effort into the problem and makes sure that he or she sees the change before finding a new problem to address.

A Changemaker sees what needs to be done, does it, and continually strives towards it. They find an issue they believe in, and they find other who believe in it too. A changemaker creates and environmental where change can happen. And then, they create that change.

A Change maker is someone who sees the flaws of the community and people around them and seeks to change what some may deem impossible. Change makers stop at nothing to create the proper productivity the world needs to see. They are leaders and set the examples for those who can’t decide whether or not to be a change maker. They are people who are dedicated to making something life changing happen even if it means they have to go it alone at first. But like most rebels in history- the path to justice starts lonely and ends beautifully as supporters begin to realize how important becoming the change you want to see in the world is.
