Introduction to MySanDiego eP

Welcome!
Congratulations you are starting your electronic portfolio! MySanDiego eP is what we call this unique forum in which to present your educational career at USD over the next few semesters. MySanDiego eP is a unique tool that will provide you an opportunity to present your personal and professional identity online, and place your education into a larger context.

You are among the first students at USD to use electronic portfolios! The first step to building your MySanDiego eP is to explore some of the e-portfolios created by students at some selected universities who have conducted research on electronic portfolios. Once you get a sense of what an ePortfolio can look like, and the kind of information they usually provide, you are ready to begin.

A good next step is collecting your work from your classes. You will want to create a virtual archive (an online filecabinet) of materials that you can later select as samples of your cousework in your MySanDiego eP.

Next, you will want to think about your educational past, present and future. You will want to reflect on the meaningfullness of the work that you have selected to display.

Finally, you may want to share your electronic portfolio with a network of peers, your professors, family, friends and potential employers or graduate schools.

Remember, in addition to your professor(s), the ePortfolio team in the Center for Educational Excellence will help you along the way.

Building an ePortfolio takes time; you may even create several ePortfolios, each with more sophisticated classwork and digital design, as you relate your studies at USD with your career goals, and personal experience.

As you work with your MySanDiego eP, think about this four-part process:

MyWork: The first step in creating an ePortfolio will be collecting your work. Do this by uploading files or "artifacts" to your Artifact Library. Artfacts are samples of work you did such as a paper, presentation, video, our sound clip.

MySamples: Create content on your portfolio pages by creating headings and adding text, images, links, and samples of your best work (or artifacts) to the pages of your portfolio.

MyThoughts: Include descriptions of the samples you selected to include in your electronic portfolio and explain why they are important in telling your story.

MyNetwork: You can use your MySanDiego E-P in many ways: as an electronic resume, an application for graduate school, or to share your progress with friends and family.

On your electronic portfolio, in addition to your classwork, you can also share your interests and activities beyond the classroom, including pages on music, movies, family and work. As a template to use to begin your portfolio, USD has created the following Table of Contents:

  • Home (a brief welcoming statement to people viewing your ePortfolio)
  • About Me (a biography)
  • Classes and Projects (selected coursework and reflections)
  • Resume (an electronic version of your resume which can be interactive with hyperlinks)
  • Educational Goals (a reflection on your educational and career goals)
  • Learning and Development (a link to USD's Student Learning and Development Transcript)
  • Links (annotated web sites you suggest to your visitors)
  • Contact (your email information so that people can get in touch with you)

The ePortfolio team has developed a set of resources to support students and faculty. These include the following:
