James Weyant is a Professor of Psychology.  His area of specialization is social psychology, focusing primarily on the application of social psychology to benevolent endeavors, such as charitable fund raising, and to helping reduce societal problems, such as prejudice and discrimination.

Scholarly Work

Professor Weyant’s research focuses on applications of social psychological principles to real world problems.  One example is his work on increasing the effectiveness of charitable fund raising campaigns.  Another example is his work on reducing stereotyping and prejudice.  His research on these and other problems has been published in several journals, including the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Psychology and Marketing, and the Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences.  He also written a book entitled Applied Social Psychology and chapters in edited books, including a chapter on reducing prejudice in schools.

Areas of Interest

Professor Weyant teaches courses in three areas of psychology.  One of these areas is introductory psychology.  Another area is social psychology, where, in additional to teaching the basic course, he also offers a course on stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination.  His third area is statistics, where he teaches the basic course and a second course that both focuses on use of computer analysis of data and introduces advanced statistical techniques.
