Devine, Students to Study Stars at Kitt Peak National Observatory
David Devine, Ph.D. was awarded six nights of observing time at the Kitt Peak National Observatory in January 2010 to study star forming regions in the Orion, Perseus, Taurus and Cepheus molecular cloud complexes. USD students Megan Kachigan (Physics, 2010) and Andy Vesci (Physics, 2012) will accompany Devine at the observatory with a hands-on 36-inch telescope. Their goal is to identify proto-stars that are accreting material from circum-stellar disks that may be in the process of forming planets.
