Gary E. Jones, PhD, has been a member of the faculty since 1981.  He has taught a variety of courses over the years relating to ethics and health care.  His main area of research is health care policy, with an emphasis on the problem of the medically uninsured.

Scholarly Work

Jones has published several articles in the areas of philosophy of science and ethics, especially medical ethics. After several years of preparation, an interactive CD entitled “Law and Bioethics” was published in 2008, and the basis for on-line classes in Biomedical Ethics has been established.   The CD was recently accepted by the largest domestic credentialing association for physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, as a basis for earning continuing education units.  One of his current projects is an interactive CD entitled “Ethical and Legal Issues in Nursing.”

Areas of Interest

Jones has taught courses in logic, medical ethics, general ethics, philosophy of law, and legal reasoning.  In addition to departmental classes, Jones has co-taught several courses in the Honors Program, including Biomedical Ethics, Ethical Issues in Genetics, Dead Man Walking (a class on the death penalty in the U.S.), and Disparities in Health Care.
