|Event Start Time||7:00 pm - 9:00 pm|
Join the Department of Philosophy and the Values Institute for a panel discussion on the ethical and legal issues concerning the constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion. This topic is particularly timely as the Supreme Court is currently deciding on cases that could impact the "wall of separation" between church and state.
About our panelists:
Steven D. Smith, Warren distinguished professor at the University of San Diego and author of numerous scholarly works on religious freedom, including The Rise and Decline of American Religious Freedom (Harvard University Press, 2014).
Dan Barker, co-president of the Freedom from Religion Foundation, a national organization working to keep state and church separate. He is the author of Godless: How an Evangelical Preacher Became One of America’s Leading Atheists.
Dean R. Broyles, president and chief counsel for the National Center for Law and Policy, a nonprofit organization that provides legal defense for the protection and promotion of religious freedom, parental rights, and other civil liberties.
