In Search of San Diego's Front Porch

San Diego Union Tribune -- A front porch is a place that welcomes visitors while making the residents feel at home. It is a public face and a personal refuge. Is there any one place in our sprawling and diverse city that can do all that? And when the construction dust clears in this still-fuzzy future, could the remade Embarcadero be that defining place?

"When people get off the plane and get into a taxi, they see this incredible view of downtown and the beautiful bay," said Molly McClain, an associate professor of history at the University of San Diego and a ninth-generation local. “In that way, the waterfront definitely has a case for being our front porch, but whether locals will go there, I don’t know.” (Full Story)
