Communication Studies in a Global World

Message

In the Communication Studies course, Global Teams, Leeva Chung, PhD encourages her students to not only reach out to the local community but to work in a global environment where overcoming cultural obstacles is a primary objective.  This semester her students have worked in teams to create informative videos for the Alzheimer’s Association to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s to the Spanish speaking population of San Diego.

Through this project, students not only gain experience in creating a public service announcement (PSA), they also learn how to work with global team members not physically located in the same place.  Each group was assigned an international team member to assist in the project and to encourage the students to look beyond the classroom for the solutions to their task.  While learning these valuable skills, students are also providing the Alzheimer’s Association with quality marketing materials.
