Fleming wins Shellie Award for Outstanding Director


Robert Barry Fleming, chair of the Undergraduate Theatre Arts Department, has won a Shellie Award for Outstanding Director.  He was nominated for two Shellie Awards honoring outstanding achievement in the performing arts in Central Contra Costa County.  Fleming’s production of “Ain’t Misbehavin’” with the Center REPertory Company earned him a nomination and win for Outstanding Director and a nomination for Outstanding Choreography.  Additionally the production and members of its cast and crew have been honored with nominations for Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor, Scene Design, Lighting Design, Music Director and Outstanding Musical Production. 

The Shellie Awards recipients were announced at the 31st annual gala celebration on Saturday, January 16, which “honors over 120 individuals and their work in musical and non-musical theatrical productions.”  The event features production numbers from the nominated musical productions, with a similar pattern to the Tony Awards.  For more information on the Shellie Awards please visit the Lesher Center for the Arts website.
