Pre-Law Advising: Interested in Attending Law School?

The Pre-Law Advising office assists students in preparation for law school in a variety of ways.  If you are interested in attending law school but confused about the application process, want to know the best way to prepare as a student or want to network with other USD students interested in law school then the Pre-Law Advising office is the place for you.  Here are some ways to become involved with Pre-Law Advising:

  1. Drop by and chat with the pre-law advisor. You may talk with Del Dickson, Ph.D., J.D., about your interest in law school during his regular office hours (PJ284), or Wednesdays 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in the Dean's Office, Arts and Sciences (FH114). No appointment necessary.
  2. Pick up a copy of Dickson’s pre-law pamphlet, which answers the most commonly asked questions about preparing for and applying to law school. These are available in the Dean’s Office, the Political Science and International Relations Office, the Admissions Office, and elsewhere on campus.
  3. Consider joining Phi Alpha Delta, USD’s undergraduate pre-law organization. All students are invited to join during the student rush period, which takes place at the beginning of each semester.
  4. Participate in our workshop and lecture series, which will cover a variety of subjects, including: debunking the myths about law school, how to prepare for law school, how to choose a law school, how to pay for law school, and career options after law school.

We send our undergraduates to some of the best law schools in the country, including Harvard, Stanford, Cal, UCLA, USC, Chicago, Notre Dame, Cornell, and Virginia. In addition, each year a number of students opt to stay at USD and enroll at our own law school, while others attend a wide variety of law schools across the nation and in other countries.
