| Title | Fulbright Scholarships Open the World to Alumni |
|---|---|
| Message | Two alumni of the College of Arts and Sciences received 2009 Fulbright Scholarships to study abroad during the 2009-2010 academic year. This prestigious and competitive scholarship enables Carolyn Straub ’09 and Elise Cimino ’08 to teach English abroad while continuing their academic research. Straub is teaching at a co-ed middle school in Cheonan City, South Korea while studying the Korean culture and the rise of Christianity in South Korea. She hopes to learn more about how Christianity spread as a religion throughout South Korea. Cimino is studying Italian in Catania, Italy, located in the region of Sicily, while teaching English and American culture to Italian high school students. After being very active in campus ministry at USD, she hopes to become part of the local Italian community through involvement in the Catholic Church. |
