Each year the Inamori Foundation presents the Kyoto Prize, an international award to honor those who have contributed significantly to the scientific, cultural, and spiritual betterment of mankind. Each Spring the laureates participate in the Kyoto Prize Symposium, a series of lectures highlighting these lifetime achievements in the fields of advanced technology, basic sciences and arts and philosophy. Thanks to a grant from the Inamori Foundation, and many generous supporters, the symposium lectures are open to the public at no charge.
The 2009 Kyoto Prize Laureate for Arts and Philosophy is conductor and composer Pierre Boulez. USD will host Boulez on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. in the Shiley Theater. Boulez will give a personal commentary on his artistic philosophy as he conducts selected portions of Sur Incises, one of his major works, in an intimate and unprecedented appearance. Register at The symposium is free, but you must register.
