The Old Globe/USD MFA program presents The Country Wife by William Wycherley, directed by Ray Chambers

Once considered too outrageous to be performed, The Country Wife is now acclaimed by academics and audiences alike who praise its linguistic energy and sharp social satire.  As a Restoration era comedy, the play not only demonstrates an aristocratic and anti-Puritan ideology, but also uses language that was thought to be sexually explicit during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Come witness Horner’s comic impotence trick that successfully cuckolds the husbands of Lady Fidget, Mrs. Dainty Fidget and Mrs. Squeamish, while watching the ever-jealous Pinchwife confront his wife Margery’s own transgressions.
