Choral Scholars Scholarship

Amount: $10,000 (includes applied lessons)

Application requirements: Submit brief letter of application, unofficial transcripts, and "screen shot" of SAT (or ACT) scores to Emilie Amrein, DMA.

Music Department Scholarships

These include 1) The Music Endowment Scholarships, 2) The Adams/Hughes Music Scholarships, 3) The USD Music Scholarships, 4) The Anne Catherine Swanke Memorial Scholarship, and 5) The Sister Rossi/James H. Kolar Amadeus Endowed Scholarship. All scholarships are for declared Music Majors and require maintaining at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average and other particulars of the given scholarship. For all scholarships, the award is renewed if the student continues to meet the criteria.
The Music Endowment Scholarships were established by a gift from the Philip Y. Hahn Foundation. They are offered to music majors who show outstanding promise and demonstrate a desire to contribute to the USD Music Department in a significant way.
Award amount: $1,000-5,000
Number of scholarships awarded per year: 1-5
The Adams/Hughes Music Scholarships, established in honor of USD President Emeritus Author E. Hughes in the Jack L. Adams Endowed Scholarship Agreement, is offered to a music major who demonstrates financial need and merit in music.
Award amount: $500-5,000
Number of scholarships awarded per year: 1-4
The USD Music Scholarships are available for incoming or continuing music majors who excel in performance, composition, education, or research in music history or culture and show promise of making a strong contribution to the Music Department. Scholarships might also be available to pay for applied lessons on a limited basis for non-majors participating in Chamber Music Ensembles.
Award amount: $540-15,000

The Anne Catherine Swanke Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving music major who gives evidence by recitals and performances that they intend to pursue a career in music as a performer. Recipients may be chosen from either currently enrolled or incoming music majors.
Award Amount: $500 - $5,000

The Sister Rossi/James H. Kolar Amadeus Endowed Scholarship is a combination of the Sister Rossi Scholarship – which was established by Alan and Irene Lund in memory of USD’s Sister Rossi and in appreciation of their daughter Victoria Lund, who flourished in the USD Music Department – and the James H. Kolar Amadeus Fund, which was established by Professor Emeritus Henry Kolar in honor of his son, James H. Kolar. The purpose of the Sister Rossi/James H. Kolar Amadeus Scholarship is to promote sacred and classical music at USD. Incoming and continuing music majors may apply for this Scholarship.
Award Amount: $500 - $2,000

(Live auditions will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 for any students applying for music scholarships or to become performance emphasis majors; students may also arrange other audition dates. Students submitting recordings are not required to audition live.)
All Music Department Scholarships require the same application process and applicants may apply for all of them at once. Scholarship applications must be sent directly to the Music Department; students must also complete the admission application to the University of San Diego through the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
