Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego Competition
Last year, the Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego awarded a total of $82,000 to fifteen gifted young musicians. Additionally this year, one of the winners will be attending the full nine-week Aspen Institute of Music this coming summer on a full scholarship. We welcome aspiring performers to enter our Preliminary Auditions on WEDNESDAY, MAY 30, 2012 held in the SDSU Music Building. Applications for the preliminary Auditions are due one month prior, on April 30, 2012. Applications may be downloaded from the website and sent to Connie Almond, Auditions Chair, 8331 Mono Lake Drive, San Diego, 92119. Please note carefully the residency requirements in the "Rules and Regulations" document found on the website.
For our 2012 competition we have expanded the auditions so the first round of the Final Auditions will be on Friday June 1, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, 320 Date Street, 92101. Those who pass the Preliminary Auditions on Wednesday will be given a time for Friday. The Final Auditions on Friday are also open to those who have passed through to the Final Auditions in previous years and are still within the age limits. On Wednesday and Friday the participants will be competing within their specific division, either instrumental, voice or keyboard. The deadline for Returning Finalists' audition applicants in May 1, 2012. Please note there have been some changes in the repertoire requirements for vocalists since last year - you can find these changes in the "Repertoire Requirements" document on the website!
The Award Allocation round of the Final Auditions is SATURDAY JUNE 2, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church. This is when finalists from all divisions compete against each other for award monies.
The Awards Concert is SUNDAY, JUNE 3, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church. It is mandatory that awards recipients be in attendance and available to perform, or they forfeit their award.
Audition repertoire should be from the appropriate, standard established repertoire. Copyright laws do not permit us to allow the use of photocopies, except as extra copies along with your originals. Please note that the music scores provided from the judges at the time of your audition must be printed scores. If they are downloaded there must be 'permission for your use' designation of the pages, and if printed from a repertoire CD, you must provide the original CD. If something you are performing is no longer being published, you need to provide a letter from the former publisher stating this fact.
