Ramon Negron

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Mr. Negron began his musical career at the age of 9 with Guillermo Figueroa Sanabia. After graduating cum laude with his bachelor of music in viola performance from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, Mr. Negron quickly moved into a position as a full-time musician.

Currently an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Music at the University of San Diego , Mr. Negron served as a faculty member at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and the School of Fine Arts in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Former Conductor of the Overture Strings by the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory, where he collaborated as a community artist teacher of the Opus Project, inspired by the success of the El Sistema movement in Venezuela.

In addition, Mr. Negron has served as principal viola of the Greater San Diego Community Orchestra, member of La Jolla Symphony Orchestra, the California Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of New York, the New Britain Symphony Orchestra, the Yale Philharmonia, Bach Collegium San Diego Chamber Music Concerts, Classics for Kids San Diego, the Greater San Diego Music Coterie, the Long Beach Camerata Baroque Orchestra and the American Bach Soloist Festival

A member of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra for 16 years, Mr. Negron has performed under the direction of such conductors as Rafael Frubeck de Burgos, Sergiu Comissiona, Yoav Talmi, Giancarlo Guerrero, Guillermo Figueroa Maximiano Valdez and Jeffrey Thomas.

In addition to serving under numerous magnificent conductors, Mr. Negron has been afforded the opportunity to share the stage with a multitude of nationally and internationally acclaimed musicians: Yo-Yo Ma, Sara Chang, Sholomo Mintz, Lynn Harrel, Elmar Oliveiras, Emerson String Quartet, Joshua Bell, Roberto Diaz, Paul Neubauer, Gary Carr, Olga Kern, Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo, Eugenia Zukerman, Anton Kuerti, Ana Maria Martinez, Elizabeth Blumenstock, Robert Mealy and Mary Wilson.

Mr. Negron has also had the pleasure of performing at numerous festivals throughout the world: Casals Festival Prades, France; Reina Sofia Summer Program in Santander, Spain; Luzerne Summer Festival in Albany, New York, the Festival of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Americas (FOSJA), Sonoma Bach String Workshop and the American Bach Soloist.

Mr. Negron has performed solo with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Arturo Somohano Philharmonic Orchestra and the Puerto Rico Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, while his performances have carried him to the stages and audiences around the word. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall, Saint Patrick Cathedral in New York; Woolsey Hall in New Haven, Connecticut; Pablo Casals Symphony Hall and Antonio Paoli Festival Hall, Puerto Rico; Teatro Nacional in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Palacio de la Opera in Coruña, Spain; the Reinhold Center for the Arts in Saint Thomas, US Virgin Islands and the San Francisco Conservatory.

Continually seeking instruction and increasing his knowledge and skill level, Mr. Negron has participated in master classes with the likes of Bruno Pasquier, Harmut Rohde, Roberto Diaz, Gerald Caussé, Marta Gulyas, Evan Wilson, Luis Biava Sr., the Tokyo String Quartet, Jesse Levine, Elizabeth Blumenstock and Robert Mealy.
