USD Concert Choir
With 50 – 80 voice, the USD Concert Choir is the largest performing group on the campus. Though the majority of the choir is made up of current students, many continue singing with the choir - as community members - long after graduation. Each year the Concert Choir performs major works (with professional orchestra) including USD’s signature Christmas presentation, “Lessons and Carols,” which is performed in two separate concerts to standing-room-only audiences. In addition to classical literature, students study African-American Spirituals, non-Western Multi-cultural Literature, Jazz and occasionally avant-garde Nuvo Choral works.
Most students in the choir have had prior experience. However, for some, this is their first time singing in a choir. Fortunately, the choir has student section leaders who are eager to help you understand how it all works. The beginning students often become our stronger singers and quickly develop a love of choral music. Choir is often the favorite class of both our returning and new singers.
Students may sign up for the course without prior instructor approval. Auditions will be scheduled (to determine voice part/range) at the first class meeting. Students may enroll in the USD Concert Choir for one unit/credit each semester and may repeat the course – with credit- for their entire college career.
Rehearsals are scheduled at a student-friendly/non-conflicting time:
Monday Evenings: 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Fall and Spring Semesters
