Audition Information

All University of San Diego Students who play an orchestral instrument are eligible to audition for the USD Symphony Orchestra and/or Chamber Music Ensembles regardless of their major(s) and minor(s). Both ensembles may be repeated for credit without limited, but audition is required prior to each semester. You cannot register for the USD Symphony Orchestra and/or the Chamber Music Ensembles on your own. Dr. Angela Yeung will register for you after the successful completion of an audition. No late fee will apply. Please contact Dr. Angela Yeung for an interview and audition.

High School Students with advanced musical training are welcome to participate as a community member upon successful audition. All high school students must also audition/re-audition each semester. Please contact Dr. Angela Yeung for an interview and audition.

Community Members: All musicians not affiliated with USD are welcome to participate if positions are open. Please contact Dr. Angela Yeung for an interview and audition.

Audition requirements

Three octaves of major and minor scales by memory and two pieces or movements in contrasting style. You will also be asked to sight-read a brief musical excerpt.

The entire audition will last approximately 30 minutes. Please arrive at your appointment at least 10 minutes prior to the audition time to tune and warm up thoroughly.
