Please join us for Dr. Tabuenca's talk, an autobigraphical reflection on Ciudad Juarez since the late 70s of until 2012. Professor Tabuenca teaches Spanish at the University of Texas at El Paso and will discuss her perceptions on border security, the war on drugs, femicide, the former President Calderon's war, and the present situation in Juarez.

A question and answer session and light reception will follow the talk.

 

Dr. Tabuenca has a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures at the State Universty of Nw York at Stony Brook. She has been a researcher at El Coegio de la Frontera Norte since 1992. Dr. Tabuenca is currently chair of the department of Languages and Linguistics at The University of Texas at El Paso. She is the author, co-author, and co-coordinator of several books Mujeres y fronteras. Un perspectiva de genero (1998), Border Women writing from la frontera with Debra Castillo (2002), and Bordenando la violencia contra las mueres en la frontera Norte de Mexico with Julia Monarrez (2007). Dr. Tabuenca has puclished essays about literature on the border, Mexican and Chicano studies, as well as representations of feminicides in different national and international magazines. Her book Tendiendo puentes: Estudios literarios mexicanos y chicanos is forthcoming.
