The Ahlers Center for International Business presents Deborah Riner, PhD, chief economist, U.S.–Mexico Chamber of Commerce, Mexico City, who will give a talk entitled, “Update on the Mexican Economy: Back to Normal."

Please join us for a presentation and discussion of what "normal" means in Mexico. Dr. Riner will talk about Mexico's economic perspectives this year and next. Of course, with a presidential election coming up in July 2012, economic prospects will be informed by politics. Come learn why Mexico's economic problems are largely political.

Speaker Bio:
Deborah Riner is currently the chief economist at the U.S.–Mexico Chamber of Commerce in Mexico City. She has held this position since 1993. Her additional professional experience in Mexico includes having served as a vice president of the Mexico office of the Bankers Trust Company of New York, and as a banking associate in the Mexico City office of the Continental Illinois Bank.

Dr. Riner holds a doctoral degree from Princeton University, and earned both her MA and BA degrees from the University of Delaware. She has spent time as a fellow with the Brookings Institution, the Princeton Committee on Latin American Studies, the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London and at the Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile.

Dr. Riner is a member of the Business Indicator Committee with the Mexican Institute of Executive Finance, a technical counselor at Mexico’s Center of Private Sector Economic Studies, and has served on the board of directors of Pro-Mujer Mexico, a nonprofit micro-lending institution.
