The Placement Results

Arabic | Chinese | French | German | Greek | Italian | Japanese | Latin | Spanish

As of June 2009 this list is not being maintained.

  • Students now receive their placement status via e-mail.

  • Advisors, preceptors, and summer schedulers can access placements in Banner.

  • Please allow up to a week for Banner to update.

  • Incoming freshmen must advise the summer schedulers whether they wish to be enrolled into their primary or optional class.

  • Placement decisions are made available to students within 48 hours after the student has finished the exam (excluding weekends).

  • The placement result of students who are not absolute beginners consists of two parts:

    1. The primary or recommended placement. This is the course level the Department of Languages and Literatures considers most appropriate for the student to start his or her study of the language at USD.
    2. The secondary or optional placement. This is an alternative course level offered to the student by the Department of Languages and Literatures as an optional entry point for his or her study of the language.
  • Students who are taking a language class only to satisfy the Core Curriculum Requirement: If you are placed into 202 and/or Upper Division, you may either take that class or the Comptency Exam.

  • The placement result of students who are absolute beginners will invariably be 101.

  • Placement results are valid ONLY for the academic year in which they were obtained.

  • Students who are already enrolled in a language course and find out that this course is neither their recommended nor their optional placement must drop the class immediately and enroll in one of the courses in which they have placed.

  • Students who, after the beginning of the semester, are found in violation of the placement policy will be dropped from their courses by the Department of Languages and Literatures.
