Welcome Carlos Burgos, Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish

Carlos Burgos Jara has been hired as a visiting assistant professor.  A Latin Americanist who is receiving his Ph.D. from Stanford University, he has also studied at Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil (Ecuador), University of California at Davis, and Harvard University.

Burgos' dissertation, Violence, Evil, Memory: An Approach to Roberto Bolaño’s Narrative, is more than a literary interpretation of the Chilean author; it is a rethinking of certain categories intimately related to the last 30 years of history and culture in Latin America.  His book, Entensión. Olmedo, Riofrío, Montalvo: cultura, literatura y política en el XIX ecuatoriano, was favorably received by critics in Ecuador.  Other publications include work on Bolaño, Borges, Darío, and Olmedo.

He will teach both lower-division and upper-division courses beginning next fall.

We are pleased to have Dr. Burgos join us.
