Ancient Heroes in Modern Roles: Modern Narratives Built on Classical Myths
This course will be conducted fully in English. Completion of the course fulfills the Core Curriculum lower-division literature requirement and also provides credit towards the minor in classical studies.
We will examine modern literature, film and art that makes use of Greek and Roman mythological themes in order to convey their message or enhance their artistic effect. We will explore six mythical figures whose stories underlie significant modern narratives: Orpheus, Oedipus, Odysseus, Pygmalion, Medea, and Aeneas.
