Silvia A. Metzger has been a member of the faculty at USD since 1997. She has been teaching elementary and intermediate courses of Italian in the Department of Languages and Literatures and she has taught a class of Italian for the USD summer abroad program.

Scholarly and Creative Work
Professor Metzger focuses her interests in promoting the Italian language and culture through seminars and presentations on Italian art, cities, history, and the Italian immigration to the USA and to Australia. She has written articles on those subjects for several publications. She has served on the Board of the Italian Cultural Center as Vice President and President for seven years and she still serves on the ICC Board of Directors.
Teaching Interests
Beside teaching at USD, Professor Metzger has worked as an interpreter and translator and has been teaching Italian for over 20 years at all levels in institutions and universities in the San Diego area and also in Australia and Italy. She has been teaching beginning, conversational and advanced Italian classes at the Italian Cultural Center of San Diego since the founding of that organization over 25 years ago.
