Kate Defrise teaches undergraduate French.She holds a professional certificate in copyediting from University of California, San Diego and has copyedited and prepared for publication numerous works from various fields, from scholarly to technical. She has a passion for fiction and is working on a novel. She is a native of Belgium.

Defrise's master’s thesis was the translation into English and comparative stylistic analysis of Un homme si simple, a novel by the Belgian author André Baillon. She has also published a short story “Her Best Shot” in the SMU Bookmarks anthology.
Defrise has been involved in foreign language teaching throughout her career. She has taught English in Belgium, Spain, and France. Since moving to the United States, she has taught French at Southern Methodist University, University of California, San Diego, and USD, as well as at the Alliance Française.
