Hiroko Takagi

Director of Japanese
Adjunct Instructor

Hiroko Takagi has taught lower and upper-division courses here since 1990. Her specialization is Japanese pedagogy and instructional technology. Her recent research focus has been on motivation in elementary foreign language classes.

Education

Professor Takagi is a doctoral student in Education in the joint program of San Diego State University and Claremont Graduate University.

Scholarly and Creative Work

Professor Takagi’s recent research papers include:  “Relationship between Students’ Affective Factors and their Grades in First Semester Japanese”, “Factors of Attrition in First Semester Japanese Classes at the Community College Level”, “Predicting Students’ Grades in First Semester Japanese Classes at the Community College Level using Multiple Regression Analyses”, “Predicting Students’ Grades in First Semester Japanese Classes at the Community College Level using Path and Factor Analyses”, and “Working Conditions of Part-Time Faculty at the Postsecondary Level”.

Teaching Interests

Professor Takagi focuses on the student development of four language skills and cultural understanding.
