When Juliette Fontaine is released from prison after serving fifteen years, her younger sister Léa invites her to stay with her family - including her husband Luc, his mute father, and their two adopted Vietnamese daughters - in their home in Nancy. Léa, a college professor, is considerably younger than Juliette. At first Juliette has trouble fitting in with her family. Eventually she is able to find a permanent job and Léa succeeds in making Juliette open up about her past and the reason for her prison sentence.
