History Honors Society Welcomes New Members
Phi Alpha Theta, the History Honors Society, held its Spring Initiation Lunch on May 6th. Four out of eight new members (Austin Black, Johnny Cushing, Max Lane, and Kaitlin Kwiatowski) were present to be initiated into the society by the current co-presidents of the University of San Diego Chapter, Ashley Beauchemin and Tori Patton. History faculty and students gathered to honor these new members and welcome them into the society. The proceedings were followed by a lunch catered by ZPizza. Sophomore history major Austin Black was elected co-president to replace Tori Patton, who will graduate this month. Ashley Beauchemin will continue to serve as co-president for the fall semester of the 2010-2011 academic year.
Phi Alpha Theta is dedicated to fostering interaction between students interested in history and history faculty. It has been especially active this academic year, planning numerous on- and off-campus events, such as a field trip to the Museum of San Diego History, a talk by Judge Norbert Ehrenfreund concerning the Nuremberg trials, a film screening and discussion, and even a private tour of Petco Park.
Undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in joining Phi Alpha Theta should visit the chapter's website for requirements and contact information.
