The first annual Ugnayan Conference is a community oriented forum that consists of multiple workshops that dive into the foundation of Filipino history, language, and culture, and into issues involving social activism and civic engagement, immigration, and hopes and dreams in the Filipino American community. These workshops contain an interactive component coupled with the intertwining of the theme of bridging the generational gap through the focus on community. The community aspect binds the two generations and works to enforce a strong sense of the Filipino identity.

The conference also contains a roundtable aspect, which provides an opportunity to hear the varying opinions of the Filipino-American community in the topics of community and identity. These roundtables allow attendees of the conference to express their sentiments, but more importantly work towards a solution in issues that continue to be prevalent in both generations. The conference ends with a physically interactive component of cultural dance workshops, as well as modern dance workshops. These workshops are implemented to allow all of the attendees to learn Filipino cultural dances, traditional and tribal, as well learn modern hip-hop dances. These dances will be showcased to the entire audience of the conference to showcase the dances of the old and the new generations.
