| Message | The department of Languages and Literatures invites faculty to a talk and workshop on teaching Spanish to heritage speakers. 12:15 -1:15 p.m., Talk by Kimberly Potowski, Ph.D. This talk explores some of the issues related to the teaching of Spanish to heritage speakers (bilingual students who learned Spanish in the home). We will discuss questions such as
Kim Potowski, Ph.D., is an associate professor of Spanish at University of Illinois at Chicago. She specializes in the use of Spanish in the U.S. and how it is transmitted and learned, as well as how it affects the identity of U.S. Latinos. She has done extensive work in the topic, and has published two books and a wide variety of articles and book chapters. 1:15-2 p.m., Light lunch 2-4:15 p.m., Workshop on how to teach Spanish to heritage speakers RSVP required by April 13.
