| Message | “The Explosion of Ministry in the Local Church Since Vatican II" by Thomas O’Meara, O.P., Portman Chair in Roman Catholic Systematic Theology
O’Meara, professor emeritus, department of Theology, University of Notre Dame, is this year’s Monsignor John R. Portman Professor of Theology at the University of San Diego, being the fifth scholar to hold this endowed chair. O’Meara earned his Ph.D. from Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich as well as a Ph.D. honoris causa from Providence College and a Master in Sacred Theology honoris causa from his Dominican Order. While in Munich, he studied with Karl Rahner and Heinrich Fries.
