Department of

History

Resources

USD’s History Department has an outstanding collection of web resources, including links to historical pictures collections such as the Library of Congress’s American Memory project, Presidential Library exhibits, local digital libraries such as the “Australia Picture Collection” from the National Library of Australia, as well as links to commercial web sites like “Great Buildings Online.”

Links to the historical picture collection are organized by topic so students can search “Aviation and Aerospace,” “Movies and Radio,” “Science and Technology,” or “Video Clips.”

Our page on Multimedia Projects provides links to several outstanding local history projects written by USD undergraduates and graduates. It also provides written instructions on “How to Make a Home Page.”

We also offer links to some of the best History web sites, among them the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History Virtual Exhibits, the BBC Education Web Guide, and Yale University’s Avalon Project.

Finally, we have links to articles, historical collections, maps and other sources relating to San Diego, California. Students can find information about the Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park (1915) or about San Diego’s Chinese Community. They can view turn-of-the-century postcards or panoramic maps of southern California.
