Reality Changers Program Focuses on At-Risk Teens
San Diego Union Tribune -- Chris Yanov has won awards, such as the Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Award from the Joan Kroc School of Peace Studies at USD for his work with gang kids. And he also serves on the San Diego Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention.
But for Chris, the seeds of Reality Changers were fed by his own childhood experiences.
He was born and raised in Camarillo, a middle-class community near the strawberry fields of Oxnard.
Most of his associates in school and on the playgrounds were the sons and daughters of laborers eking out meager livings picking strawberries. Chris always noted that many of them were among the brightest and most talented students in school. (Full Story)
