What is a Living Learning Community (LLC)?
In living learning communities (LLC), students who share a common interest live and study together. Not only do LLCs ease your academic and social transition to USD, but they also expand your intellectual curiosity beyond the classroom and establish an immediate sense of community with your faculty and fellow residents. USD currently has 9 LLC themes. Each LLC theme acts as an umbrella for a selection of preceptorial courses.

What do you have to do in an LLC?
In an LLC, students take classes together and live near one another, sharing a supercharged college experience where academics meld with exciting extracurricular activities and community engagement, unfurling new understandings in the process.
I'm planning to be a commuter, will I still be in an LLC?
Yes! All first-year students are enrolled in LLCs, including students who commute. We encourage commuters to choose from the following LLCs: Natural World, Faith and Reason, and Sustainability. We want your first-year experience as a commuter student to be the best it can be and we've set aside these themes to help build community with other commuter and on-campus students.
How do I tell what LLC I am in?
Your preceptiorial course will match up with a particular Living Learning Community. You can view which preceptorials fit under particular LLCs on the LLC website.
You will receive your LLC assignment over the summer in your welcome letter, keep an eye on your mailbox in early July.
How do I enroll in the Honors LLC?
Select incoming first-year students are invited to apply to the Honors Program. Once admitted, the Honors first-year students get placed into the Honors Living Learning Community. There are a variety of Honors Preceptorial Courses offered in the Honors LLC.
