Scholarly and Creative Work
Spiegel is particularly interested in the evolution of the representation of romantic love in literature, as well as current theories on the biological basis of romantic attraction. Her work on romantic love in Victorian fiction has appeared in Readerly Writerly Texts. Her thesis was on love stories and feminism in nineteenth century British novels. She is currently doing research on the depiction of love in literature for young adults.
Spiegel's areas of interest are world literature, Victorian literature, poetry, and contemporary British literature. P Spiegel teaches primarily undergraduate courses and enjoys introducing literature to all students, majors and non-majors alike. Her courses are designed to facilitate lively discussion about the literary works and what makes them aesthetically engaging and culturally significant.
