Jason Magabo Perez
Jason Magabo Perez is a writer, performer, and educator. His writings have appeared in TAYO, Witness, and Mission at Tenth. Formerly a featured artist for the New Americans Museum and the AjA Project, and recipient of Challenge America Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Perez has performed at the National Asian American Theater Festival, the International Conference of the Philippines, at several universities across California, and at venues such as the Asian Art Museum SF, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Galoka, and the La Jolla Playhouse. For the past several years, Perez has taught writing, performance, and ethnic studies at various university and community college campuses in San Diego. Perez earned his MFA in Writing & Consciousness from the now defunct New College of California and is an alumnus of the VONA/Voices Writing Workshop for Writers of Color. Currently, Perez is a dual PhD student in communication and ethnic studies at UC San Diego, where he is exploring Filipino American histories, hip hop epistemology, performance, and radical pedagogies.
