Two Tenure-Track Faculty Job Openings

The Department of Communication Studies is searching for 2 tenure-track faculty members to join the faculty in Fall 2012. The following descriptions provide more information about the positions, USD and the Department, and directions to apply.

TENURE TRACK JOB OPENING: MASS MEDIA & COMMUNICATION
The Department of Communication Studies at the University of San Diego invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mass Media and Communication beginning in Fall 2012. We seek candidates with general expertise in mass communication/media studies, and we are open to all areas of specialization related to the study of media, particularly media messages and their influence; media and health; media and gender, ethnicity/race & class; and media education/literacy.
Candidates should be trained in the social scientific traditions of media processes and effects, and they must be prepared to teach Introduction to Media Studies, Introductory Quantitative Research Methods, Media Processes and Effects, other media-related courses, as well as courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Normal teaching load is three courses per academic semester. Research or creative activities, academic advising, department or university service, and professionally related service are expected. Opportunities for summer teaching and research support exist.

The Department of Communication Studies at the University of San Diego invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-line position beginning in Fall 2012 in the area of communication and social justice. Subject areas emphasized in this position include the study of communication and social movements, communication and civic engagement, and/or political communication and the public interest. Areas of specialization may include social justice issues such as: global media and free speech issues; rhetoric of social movements; human rights issues; health campaigns; communicating in times of conflict; and strategic communication for development and/or social change. The successful candidate would able to teach several courses within the department’s current curriculum, such as introductory communication courses, international media, media and conflict, and/or political communication, as well as new courses devoted to the candidate’s areas of expertise.
