T. O Rourke
T. O’Rourke began teaching at USD in 2008, after working more than 25 years in the marketing communication field. While earning a Master of Arts in Communication Studies at San Diego State University, he conducted groundbreaking research in the area of American funerary participation, and was recognized with the International Communication Association award for instruction excellence. In addition to teaching college courses on public speaking, interpersonal communication, and small group interaction, T O’Rourke facilitates communication training for corporate and non-profit clients, and speaks nationally on funeral consumer issues.

O’Rourke has conducted research and curriculum development in the areas of American funerals, family memory, bullying, online discussion forums, and technology in education.
O’Rourke is especially interested in translating current theories and research into courses that improve communication skills in a variety of contexts – interpersonal, organizational, family, and relational. By encouraging students to apply course concepts to real-world situations, he hopes to create lessons that will last a lifetime.
