Peter Iovine, Ph.D., has published an article in Macromolecules, describing a new approach to modifying polymer structure using boron reagents. In the future, the authors intend to use this new chemical modification procedure to modify biomass such as lignin. If successful, they may increase the utilization of biomass in the generation of renewable and biodegradable plastics. One of the article’s co-author’s, Kristy Clarke, is a Chemistry and Biochemistry department alumnae.
