Title	Katsina: Commodified and Appropriated Images of Hopi Supernaturals

Message	According to Zena Pearlstone, the curator of this exhibit, "the katsina is a benevolent spirit integral to the Hopi religious belief." This exhibit visually demonstrates how the katsina iconography has been used in both the sacred and the profane arenas by both Hopi and non-Hopi alike. In late spring, an exhibit focused on the O'odham and their interaction with the Sonoran Desert environment will open. Amadeo Rea, PhD, a taxonomic ornithologist and ethnobiologist whose work is focused on the greater Southwest will curate this exhibit. Rea is a research associate at USD in the Anthropology department. The May Gallery is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 1- 3 p.m., and by appointment.
