Scholarly and Creative Work
As a result of repeated requests to perform internationally (France, Germany, Austria ’09, Italy Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary ’08, Ireland, Scotland, Spain ’07 etc.) Basilio performs extensively throughout Europe with the USD Choral Scholars and the Red Robe Choir of Grossmont High School.
Choirs under the direction of Basilio traditionally perform major works with orchestra and have produced more than 10 digital recordings (CD’s). Most recently, in collaboration with the Center for Catholic Thought and Culture, COX Cable broadcast “Lessons and Carols” (an extensive program featuring – among other elements – choirs prepared and directed by Basilio) on local cable television.
Teaching Interests
Basilio has directed choirs on a professional level for more than 30 years – teaching music from grade levels ranging from pre-school children to post-graduate adult students. Though his primary focus has been choral music, he also teaches piano, music theory, and has served on the faculties of Chapman University and San Diego State University where he teaches Advanced Conducting and Choral Literature. His selection of literature consistently includes eclectic WORLD music of non-Western origins.
