Over 800 students are employed on campus each year, with more than 500 participating in the Federal Work Study Program. Others are hired as casual workers by various departments on campus.
Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study Program is a need-based student employment program. To determine if you are eligible to participate in the work-study program at USD, contact the Office of Financial Aid at (619) 260-4801. Visit Student Employment in Hughes 313, to check for available work-study positions. Options include working in academic, administrative and recreation-oriented offices. If there is a particular department you want to work for, contact them directly to determine if they are hiring for work-study positions. Most students work about 10 hours per week, with a maximum of 20 hours per week set by university policy.
- Copley Library only hires students with Federal Work Study awards. The library has a very limited number of Graduate Assistant positions.
Casual Workers (Non Work-Study)
Many locations on campus hire students. If there is a particular department you want to work for, contact them directly regarding casual worker positions. Some of the most common departments that hire students for casual worker jobs include:
- Auxiliary Services consists of the USD Torero Store, Campus Card Services, Hospitality Services (catering, conferences, La Gran Terraza), and Dining Services (the largest employer on campus). To apply for a position at Dining Services, complete an interest form
